Alessia Russo is currently the best super sub ever for the England women’s national team in terms of goals per game – but this star is not just a “super sub.”

The England women’s national team reached the final of EURO 2022 after an impressive 4-0 victory over Sweden on Tuesday night. Russo once again was the hero who secured the win for the Lionesses. She had a stunning backheel and scored the fourth goal of the tournament.

But she has a rich background, even for a 23-year-old. Born in Maidstone, Kent, this attacking player is of Italian descent. Her grandfather was Sicilian and moved to England in the 1950s.

Alessia comes from a footballing family, with her father playing for Met Police – and her brother Giorgio playing in the amateur league for Ramsgate in Kent.

Alessia began her career playing for the U10 team of Bearsted Girls before joining the renowned academy of Charlton Athletic.

Later, she joined Chelsea and then moved south to sunny Brighton in 2017, where she scored 3 goals in just 7 matches.

After that, she joined the North Carolina Tar Heels in the USA. There, she scored a total of 28 goals. Just a month after leaving the club, she signed a two-year contract with her dream club, Man United.

In the northwest last season, Alessia scored 11 goals in 30 appearances across all competitions and won the team’s Player of the Year award.
